What Not to Say

For some reason, being pregnant seems to signal to the world that it is okay to say ANYTHING. It's as if the world's appropriateness-monitor turns off when in company of said preggo. For example:

Is it really okay to tell me that I'm huge? Or that I look like I'm about to pop? I still have 4 weeks! I guess by then I'll look like I'm about to burst! I had a friend yesterday say, "I didn't expect you to get so big!" Well, geez. Thanks.

The other day I was walking through the mall, which has a variety of relatively obnoxious kiosks sprinkled throughout. As I walked by this pretty funny kiosk of wigs, one of the gals proclaimed, "Look at the pregnant woman! Isn't she SO cute?!" Her colleague then turned to look. Should I have waved? Curtsied? What was my appropriate response? I know I should be flattered, but I just felt awkward.

Finally, I DON'T want to hear about your awful labor or delivery. (Mom, if you were to know how to get online, this would particularly pertain to you.) I'd like to remain naive (or optimistic) until after I've experienced it myself!

A Boy in a Purple Room?

So, I went on a walk with my neighbor the other day and she said, "You know, I had this dream last night about you and the baby. I came over to your house to meet the little one, and it took me almost 10 minutes to realize something was off. You had a boy- not a girl!"

Well, this thought has crossed our minds for sure the past few weeks, especially as Steven was putting the last coat of purple paint on the walls. I said, well, he'll just be in pink clothing, and living in a purple room. Steven's response? "I don't think so." But really- is it that bad to put a boy in pink clothing? I suppose so. Reminds me of Johnny Cash's song, "A boy named Sue." Now, THAT would really be bad.

Namamaste

Oh, here are two pics of me modeling a friend's new line of Namamaste Tees. Sarah, the designer, is also a yoga teacher at Yoga Elements and teaches a mommy & me class!

7 Things A Preggo Can Hardly Do

So, I knew pregnancy would make some things more difficult, but here are the top 10 things that are nearly impossible to accomplish while toting around this belly:
1. Dishes- No, this isn't an excuse, and no I'm not getting out of doing them. But in order to lean over the sink and not have my belly compressed, I have to stand on my tip-toes.
2. Putting on pants. Bending over is no longer easy or very suave.
3. Walking the dogs. You'd think with my belly as an anchor, I'd be able to keep them back. Not so.
4. Shaving. I have NO idea what my bikini line looks like these days.
5. Getting up. For some reason, in this instance, my anchor works very well. (See above.)
6. Sitting at my desk. I have to sit much further away in order to accommodate my belly, which I'm sure is great for my wrists.
7. Checking out at the grocery store. No joke, the other day I found myself stuck between the counter to pay and my own grocery cart. Bag boy got a huge laugh.

Like a Furnace

Everyone says that when you're pregnant, your body temperature rises. But as someone who is typically cold, this extreme temperature shift is a bit foreign. Although it is February and only about 40 for a high each day, I was tempted to turn the air-conditioning on during my Saturday prenatal yoga class. (And truth be told, I tried, but I couldn't get it work.) My students and I were all discussing that the class temperature would be perfect in a bikini- or as one gal suggested- nude! Last night, I could have slept without any covers, while Steven was checking the thermostat to make sure the heat was on (and he slept with a long-sleeved shirt on, too). What the heck? Apparently with pregnancy, there is no middle ground.

On a good note, doc says everything looks good. We'll find out in two weeks if she's head down.

Pregnancy Progression

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of watching me explode, here is the progression.
Pregnancy Progression

Not too late-right?

So, I've been meaning to start a blog for quite some time, and now that I'm nearing 35 weeks preggo, I'm getting around to it. It wasn't for lack of motivation, however, just indecisiveness. I couldn't decide what we should call the blog (don't even ask if we have her name picked out). But regardless, I'm going to do my best to chronicle these last few weeks of our relatively quiet life as we prepare for the arrival of Baby.
